96-781: Metrics for Software Managers
The Metrics for Software Managers course consists of four tasks:Task 1: Introduction to Metrics ConceptsBecome familiar with software metrics concepts and terminology; understand the certificate¿s hybrid learning approach: problem-based learning, seminar-style reading discussions, and workshop-style peer reviews; understand basic issues associated with a range of software engineering approaches (from highly agile to highly disciplined); understand certificate learning objectives and develop team and individual plans (with metrics) to ensure learning.Task 2: Project-Level MetricsUnderstand and analyze a project manager¿s use of software metrics; solve a complex project management problem with proposed metrics (report and presentation); critique other teams' solutions; and capture/measure learnings.Task 3: Portfolio-Level MetricsUnderstand and analyze a portfolio/program manager¿s use of software metrics; solve a complex management problem for a mixed portfolio of projects that employ a diverse range of agile and disciplined approaches (report and presentation); critique other teams' solutions; and capture/measure learnings.Task 4: ReflectionAssess individual and team learning, using data gathered with the team¿s metrics for the learning objectives as well as observations of additional learning. Provide feedback to peers on contributions; provide feedback to faculty on course issues.
