This mini course will focus on the transformations, both negative andpositive, of the city of Pittsburgh and of the Pittsburgh region in theperiod from 1945 through the present. It will explore the following themes:the redevelopment of the city in the Pittsburgh Renaissances (I & II), thecollapse of the steel industry and the development of a service economy, thecity's changing demography, suburban development, neighborhood decline andrenewal, and environmental policy and change.
