16-722: Sensing and Sensors
Sensing ¿ the science and art of measurement ¿ and sensors ¿ thedevices, instruments, and algorithms that are its tools. Firstsensing: the things you want to measure, the quantities you actuallycan measure, when and why it is hard, and the science and engineeringyou need to succeed. Then sensors: the gadgets you buy and build toput the principles into practice. Select a topic of current interest,for example, biometrics, planetary exploration, or finding improvisedexplosive devices; research the state of the sensing art in thatdomain; report your research in a lecture; create corresponding studynotes and homework exercises; grade the homework. Your grade will bebased on the homework you do, the content and quality of your lecture,the homework assignment you create, and your class participation.
