*Graduate level standing in engineering or science required, 06-607 or 06-609 recommended. In this graduate level laboratory course, students will learn techniques for the characterization of fine particles, macromolecules and interfaces relevant to complex fluids engineering (CFE). Experiments will be based on methods currently used in CFE research including microelectrophoresis, rheology, dynamic surface tension using the bubble pressure method, contact angle hysteresis measurement, surface excess concentration measurement using ellipsometry, measurement of streaming potential of solid surfaces, Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), and particle sizing by dynamic light scattering.
